Chandeliers go a long ways back in history in decorating and lighting beautiful homes and mansions . Chandeliers would often light the entire room, This is du to how the glass and crystals where cut that spread the light through out a room. Chandeliers have come a long way from the days of candles and wrought iron. Today they come in a wide variety designs and styles to match every different design style. Installing a chandelier is very simple, here are a few steps on how you can go about it.
- First and foremost, you have to decide on the exact location of hanging your chandelier. Followed by removing your old lighting fixture, say ceiling lighting, if there is any. You should first switch off the main electric circuit and proceed to disconnect all the electric wirings.
- Get rid of all appliances that were used with the old lighting fixture including the support bar and screws. You should use a handsaw and screwdriver to loosen the fins and ultimately you will be left with an empty hole with your dead electrical wires
- You should start by installing the support brace, which should securely be tightened using force.
- Pull around 6 inches of your dead wires into your new electrical box and securely tighten the cable connector using screwdrivers. You should however not over-tighten your cable connector. Just a point to note, the connector has to be nonmetallic lest you want to perforate the insulation of the wires.
- Feed your electrical box with required wires and attach it safely and securely to the brace using a bolt or screws for full support.
- Remove all the chain links attached to your chandelier and raise it to its full height. You might need an extra pair of hands to help hold the chandelier safely. Remove enough chain so that you can be able to hang your new chandelier to the desired height dangling from the ceiling. You should then connect the wires of your chandelier to those of your house
- Finally, shred around an inch of insulation off the ends of your wires and connect them to the wiring on your chandelier using twist-on connectors.
- Attach your canopy by cautiously tucking the remaining wiring inside the electric box, and then sliding the canopy upwards so that it can be tightened on to the ceiling.
You should suffice if you follow these handy tips. Keep fire hazards in mind, and always have someone else available just in case you need an extra hand.
